Founded in 1844 in London, England, the Y has grown into one of the largest volunteer organizations in the world serving people in 124 countries. The Japan YMCA is already providing space and information to victims, and is mobilizing volunteers to support children, elderly, disabled and migrant workers in the areas devastated by the earthquake and tsunamis at the Sendai YMCA and Morioka YMCAs. The YMCA of Greater Seattle has worked closely with the Ys in Japan for nearly 50 years and is committed to supporting ongoing relief efforts.
